Collaborative coaching
This week I worked with a group of future leaders and supported their development with a coaching led action learning session.
It's always great to explain coaching to a newer audience as it can appear to a bit random when you initially explain it. So, your just going to ask me questions?!, is that it? To really understand how coaching works, its important to experience it, even if its a short sample session. When you do, you can really see the understanding of its power, slotting into place.
Following the session, I asked them to explain how it felt to be coached. This led to the brilliantly defined quote.
"that was an uncollaborative, yet collaborative process which really helped me to tackle the issue. Frustrating, but in a good way".
Coaching can frustrate as you might want the answer to be given or you want to be told exactly what to do. You might be finding your issues tough to deal with, but this is the point.
Coaching can give you the time and space to be able to explore, reflect and move forward. If you have not tried it, give it a go, you might just have a lightbulb moment too.
So anyone else who is coaching, keep being uncollaborative yet collaborative!
